Ghee for skin: A goldmine of nutrients

With only one natural and ever present remedy for a fresh and good-looking face, ghee has been known for its beneficial properties on the skin.  Ghee is a storehouse of various benefits that has been used since centuries in the Asian culture. Used in Ayurveda as a therapeutic agent, ghee is an inseparable part of the Indian household. It is seen as a sacred food that is used even for religious rituals. Apart from that, ghee gives you results, which are worth dying for and it has even been accepted by experts.

Applying ghee on face helps in keeping it moisturized, as it is full of moisture. Filled with magical properties that help in treating various skin diseases, ghee is the one natural remedy for it all. It helps in treating dull skin, dehydrated skin, and peeling skin and keeps it moisturized all day long. It is rich in vitamins and minerals that help in keeping the skin looking perfect from the outside, and healthy from the inside. With its antibacterial properties, which even helps in removing unwanted pimples on the face.

 How to use it?

Before going to sleep, take a small amount of ghee in your hand and apply it like night cream. Massage it into your skin, with slow and swift movements. This will allow you to wake up with a glowing skin in the morning. Mixing it with sandalwood and turmeric powder, makes it all worthwhile. Make a paste from it, apply it on your skin and leave it on for 20 minutes. Wash it off with lukewarm water and see the changes for yourself. This pack will help in fighting dullness and dry skin.

 2.   Freshen up your tired eyes:

Sitting in front of laptops and pc’s leads to your eyes feeling heavy and tired. This can lead to tired skin, eyesight issues and various skin problems. Loaded with antioxidants, ghee helps in fighting the early signs of ageing and the dark circles under your eyes, which make you look older. Along with the healthy fatty acids, and the high amount of vitamins and minerals, when used together with the antioxidant element of ghee, helps in removing the dark circles, for good! 

How to use:

Take two drops of ghee on your fingertips and massage it under your eyes for approximately ten minutes. Do it very gently in circular motions so as to relax your eyes from a tiring day. Wash it off with cold water in the morning. Repeat this method for at least a week to see the best results.   

 3.   Helpful in healing chapped lips:

There are many people who suffer from dry and dehydrated lip issues, which can be caused due to shortage of water, or due to a change in the climate. Applying ghee on chapped lips is an ayurvedic process, which has been used since ancient times and has proven its worth.

 How to use:

Take some amount of ghee and apply it on your lips at night. Leave it overnight and when you wake up in the morning, you will surely have baby soft lips!

 4.   Ghee for skin whitening:

Apart from healing chapped lips, using ghee for face helps in keeping the skin tone even, and gives you a long-lasting result. As it is naturally moisture-laden, it helps in whitening the skin deeply. Ghee helps in cleaning the entire face from the inside and mixes with its natural moisture. For you to get rid of your dull and saggy skin, ghee is the perfect cream!

 How to use:

For the perfect glowing and white skin, you need besan (chickpea flour), raw milk and masoor dal (red lentils). Mix all these ingredients and whisk until the paste is thick and smooth. Apply this gently on your face and leave it on for 15-20 minutes. After this has dried, rinse gently with cold water and pat dry. Use this paste regularly and see the difference in 3-4 days!

 5.   Acts as one of the best substitutes to bath oil:

Your daily bath oil can always be replaced by ghee, as it helps in calming the skin and releasing any tensions built up. As per Ayurveda, ghee has been used as a massaging agent on the body. As it is a natural moisturizer, it helps in making the skin smooth at a lower cost, as compared to the expensive bath oils.

 How to use:

To make the perfect bath oil, you need ghee and coconut oil. Both must be in the same ratio. After the oil is ready, apply it all over your body and leave it for 30 minutes. Take a shower thoroughly after that, and you will be left with silky, smooth skin. Use ghee as a bath oil regularly to see the difference for yourself!

 6.   Shata Dhauta Ghrita

In Ayurvedic terms, Shata stands for ‘100’, Dhaura stands for ‘thoroughly washed’ and Ghrita stands for ‘ghee’. This is a remedial process that has been used since ancient India, for various skin diseases. This can simply be done with 10 ounces of ghee and water.

 How to use: 

Take a bowl and add equal amounts of ghee and water. Mix the paste thoroughly and let it sit for five minutes. Drain the water out. Repeat this process for as long as possible. Continuing it for approximately 30 times will leave the ghee with a buttery consistency, and will be cool and white in colour. 

This has been used for treating acne, burns, scars, chickenpox scars, and much more. To use this mixture as a moisturizer, apply it for 15 minutes and wash it off with cold water. 

There are various creams and moisturizers available in the market, but nothing matches the natural healing properties of ghee. It has zero side effects and easy availability, ghee has always been the first option for natural skincare. Use this for yourself and see the difference.
