Milk and its products are an inseparable part of any individual’s life. So, celebrating a day behind it sounds perfect and worthwhile!
Milk has been enjoyed throughout the world for thousands of years and it still is! The Cambridge English Dictionary defines milk as “the white liquid produced by women and other female mammals as food for their young.” Breast or Mother’s milk is considered the best source of nourishment for a baby, as it has all the essential nutrients and vitamins that his/ her body requires for proper growth!
Interesting, right? But we know that you know, but you don’t know that we know who is the largest producer of milk worldwide (Got who we’re trying to imitate here?). Want to know the answer? read on a little more and you may just find your answer!
What is the importance of milk in someone’s life?
Oh, that’s easy. We’ve all been drinking milk since birth for proper growth and to keep ourselves healthy! Our mothers would ask us to drink milk to keep our bones strong. You know why? Because it is rich in calcium! It even has other vitamins and minerals that your body needs for it to function properly!
Okay, so we all know that Camel milk is a part of a healthy and balanced diet, and when we have an entire day dedicated to it, we create more awareness and spread its richness all over!
The first question that pops up in the mind is, when is World Milk Day celebrated! Well, it is celebrated every year on 1st June, and it was introduced in the year 2001, which marked the beginning of a global celebration!
Who introduced this day? The Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) of the United States brought this day into action!
What is the core of this celebration? As it is World Milk Day, it simply means the dairy industry’s sustainability and providing information on activities related to dairy! On this day specifically, the importance, benefits, awareness, and promotion of milk and its products are focused upon.
The history behind it all!
Did you know? Over 6 billion people consume dairy products and around 1 billion people’s livelihood is dependent on the production of dairy products! The main motive behind choosing 1st June as the date was that many countries were already on the way to celebrating milk day on the same date. Late May was suggested, but a few countries, for example, China, felt that they already had too many celebrations in May. Although 1st June has been declared as World Milk Day, many countries choose to celebrate it a week before or after this date!
That’s an interesting amount of information on World Milk Day. Won’t you agree? But, we’ve got more in store for you!
Want to know an interesting fact about milk and what Ayurveda has to say about it? Ayurveda says that consuming milk can help in reducing Vatta and Pitta, and improves bowel movement. It is even helpful in improving physical strength! And most importantly, it helps you sleep better!
Okay, the last fact about World Milk Day! We promise!
What is the theme for World Milk day 2021?
Each year, the theme for the celebration of this day is different, and so it is for this year! We cannot tell you how excited we are about this!
This year’s theme is “Sustainability in the Dairy Sector.” With this theme in mind, this day will be stressing the importance of including milk and its products in every individual’s diet. One of the interesting parts, which caught our eye was that the companies that promote faulty ideologies and poor-quality products will be judged!
Sustaining in the dairy sector! How is it done?
There are over 1 billion people, whose lives are dependent on milk. It is through their contact with the dairy sector, that they earn their livelihood. This helps in revitalizing the village communities in every part of the world! Not just men, it even empowers women and children to thrive.
Also, the dairy sector makes a significant impact in improving the lives and social inequity completely around the social fabric of the rural communities! It helps in reducing poverty and creates opportunities for these traditionally disadvantaged individuals!
Did you know that milk production and milk consumption are a few of the most significant stable sources of income for the rural population? Women especially are empowered by their responsibility for dairy production, as well as cattle rearing that helps in providing food security at both their homes and at the national level for the farmers.
